I'm this rather new Facebook game called Frontierville, which is a bit like the more established Farmville but set in a Wild West frontier setting. Although the gold doesn't feature gold prospecting as an element in the game, gold features quite prominently as a form of currency, just like it did in real life.

When you need to buy something in the game, gold coins are used. One gold coin doesn't get you much, but in real life, a gold coin can REALLY get you a lot of stuff. Gold is the highest standard by which we compare everything else in terms of beauty, value and quality. Take the phrase 'gold standard', for instance.

You can buy gold coins as a form of solid investment because the price is increasing all the time.
