What is it with Malaysians and freebies?
Every time the supermarket gives out samples of any new products for tasting, we swarm over it like ants to honey at a picnic.
Even if the product is some disgusting herbal root juice extracted from the bakau mangrove fermented in tapai. If it’s FREE, we must get it.
Each time I see one of these booths at the Tesco or Jusco, (usually manned by some poor promoter on the 2nd day of her job) I see these aunties and grannies grabbing 2 or 3 portions, apparently ‘for my children/grandchildren/nieces/pet Chihuahua.’
Then they turn the aisle, drink one cup, discover that it tastes horrendous, then leave the two untouched cups on the aisle shelf displaying women’s undergarments.
If I were the marketing company, I wouldn’t judge the popularity of the product tasting by the number of cups I give away, but the number of un-drunk cups I find in the aisle around the tasting booth.

Hahahaha - why are malaysians always taking the piss about Singaporeans being Kiasu? We're clearly just as kiasu if not more so :D

Yeah, those taste booths sprout up during the weekend. Doubt the lady doling it out will be honest to the company - "your product tak laku" and I seriously doubt they will send someone just to count undrunk cups!

Tidak bersalah, tuan! I hate getting freebies 'cos I feel compelled to buy so I usually stay far away. Else my 4 kids will drink so much I had to buy at least a few packets so as not to be accused of cheapskate.

According to Homer Simpson, anything that has a toothpick on it is a freebie, hehe.
From the way some people gulp down the freebies, you would think they're refugees from Albania or something.

You should see how people rush for free food immediately after one of those company AGMs. You wouldn't believe what you see .. more dramatic than feeding hungry animals in a zoo.

shan - Singaporeans & Malaysians are equally kiasu. only s'poreans like to talk about it.
boo_licious - "your product tak laku lah! but if if you give me more samples, then laku!"
twinsmom - yeah lor. imagine you bring one kid at a time, the second time you tell the lady 'i have twins!!!" i wonder if they'll believe you...
5xmom - must be thick skinned, that way no need to buy.
wildcharm - my experience, usually these new products aren't always great. that's why they have to give freebies.
pat - Ah, the trick is to bring your own toothpicks...
fishtail - i know a company that served sharkfin's soup during their AGM...!
